Garage Door Opener Repair in Queens & Long Island

Remote not working, door reversing, opener humming but not lifting? Garavex troubleshoots and repairs LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie openers — sensors, remotes, wall controls, motors and smart features — with a clear estimate before any work.

Common opener problems we fix

Opener hums but door won’t move

Often a stripped main drive gear, a broken trolley/carriage — or a door gone heavy from a broken spring. We test which system is actually at fault.

Door reverses before closing

Usually misaligned or dirty safety sensors (photo-eyes), or a travel-limit / down-force setting. Frequently a quick adjustment once diagnosed.

Remote or keypad not working

Dead batteries, lost programming, a failing receiver logic board, or interference. We re-pair, reprogram, or replace the faulty part.

Wall control dead or unresponsive

Wiring, a failed wall button, or a logic-board fault. We trace the circuit rather than guess.

Opener runs but is loud or jerky

Worn drive components, a loose chain, or a dry/worn door dragging on the motor. We check the opener and the door together.

Smart / Wi-Fi opener won’t connect

myQ and other smart features failing to pair, drop offline, or stop notifying — often a gateway, firmware, or network setup issue.

Is it the opener — or the door?

Before replacing an opener, it’s worth knowing whether the opener is actually the problem. Disconnect the opener (pull the red release cord) and lift the door by hand. If it’s heavy, sticks, or won’t stay open on its own, you have a door problem — a spring, cable, roller or track issue — and a new opener won’t fix it. If the door glides smoothly by hand but won’t respond to the remote or wall control, the fault is in the opener. We run this test on every call so you don’t replace a healthy opener because of a broken spring. See garage door repair and spring repair.

Safety sensors, remotes & smart features

Modern openers rely on two photo-eye sensors near the floor that stop and reverse the door if anything crosses the beam. When a door won’t close — or closes then pops back open — misaligned or dirty sensors are the first thing we check. We also handle remote reprogramming, keypad setup, wall-control replacement, and smart-opener issues (Wi-Fi gateways, app pairing, and notifications) so you can open, close and monitor the door reliably.

Repair or replace the opener?

Many opener problems are an affordable repair — a sensor, remote, gear kit or logic board. Replacement is worth considering when the unit is very old, the motor or main gear has failed repeatedly, or you want a quieter belt drive, battery backup, or smart features. We’ll give you the honest trade-off and the price for each path before you choose.

Opener repair across Queens, Nassau & Suffolk

We handle opener calls throughout Queens, Nassau County, and selected western and central Suffolk County communities, plus the wider Long Island market. Tell us the opener brand and what it’s doing, and we’ll arrive prepared.

Opener repair FAQs

My opener hums but the door won’t move — what’s wrong?

Often a stripped main drive gear, a broken trolley, or a door that’s too heavy from a broken spring. We test whether the fault is the opener or the door before recommending a repair.

Why does my door start to close then reverse?

Usually the safety sensors are misaligned, dirty, or obstructed; sometimes a travel-limit or down-force setting. These are often quick adjustments once diagnosed.

Can you repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie?

Yes — chain-, belt- and screw-drive units from the common residential brands, plus their remotes, wall controls, sensors and smart/Wi-Fi features.

Should I repair or replace my opener?

Many issues are an inexpensive repair. Replacement makes sense when the unit is very old, the motor has failed, or you want quieter belt drive and smart features. We explain both before you decide.
